Product Linguist

The ideal candidate is a fast learner with a solid foundation in phonetics, phonology, and technical concepts, and is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with external and internal customers.

We are seeking a Linguist with a strong interest in speech technology. The ideal candidate is a fast learner with a solid foundation in phonetics, phonology, and technical concepts, and is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with external and internal customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Tune AI models for voice-user interfaces using internal tools, meeting customer specifications and delivery timelines
  • Develop, review, test, and refine linguistic components of speech recognition and synthesis systems
  • Design data collection protocols and ensure quality using internal QA tools
  • Collaborate with speech technologists on research and development of new solutions
  • Maintain expertise in Sensory’s technology offerings and contribute to the design and enhancement of internal tuning tools and technologies
  • Conduct detailed analyses of voice recognition performance for internal and customer projects
  • Work directly with customers to guide the definition of project performance objectives, test data and methodology, dialogue design, user interface decisions, and recognition set composition to ensure optimal speech recognition outcomes
  • Prepare delivery documentation for all Sensory phrase-spotting products and projects
  • Actively manage project expectations and deliverables to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Support cross-functional teams as needed, including tracking projects and tasks inside Sensory as needed
  • Bring a systems and process mindset to look for opportunities to streamline and further automate the delivery of custom solutions.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated interest in linguistics
  • Fluency in at least one language in addition to English
  • Strong knowledge of phonetic and phonological concepts
  • Proficiency with phonetic transcription and spectrogram analysis
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Programming experience in at least one language
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • B.A./B.S. or higher in Linguistics

Desired Skills

  • Experience with customer project management
  • Experience with audio tools such as Audition, Peak, Sound Forge, or Praat
  • Familiarity with WorldBet or SAMPA
  • Experience using version control software
